With (Canadian) Thanksgiving out of the way and the snow beginning to fly, it's time to start planning for the Christmas holidays! Stores are filled with holiday decorations and gift ideas; it's so exciting!
Tonight I completed my first christmas project of the year: Tea Towel Throw Pillows. They turned out pretty cute and cost next to nothing, plus I have the gratifying feeling knowing I did them myself :)
I found a set of tea towels at Home Sense that called my name! They were headed for a life filled with dirty hands and wet dishes, but I thought they were too cute for that, so tonight I welcomed them into a world of comfort and functionality! Let's begin...
NOTE: I would recommend this project for the beginner sewing level.
SUPPLIES REQUIRED:
- sewing machine
- scissors and pins
- new tea towel (choose one with a cute design and stay away from the terry type fabrics)
- pillow filler fluffy stuff (who needs the real name when you can say fun things like this?
COST:
I got 3 tea towels in the set for $5.99, plus the cost of filler! Compare this to $15+ for off the shelf pillows.
STEPS:
1. Fold your towel in half and cut along the folded edge. You will now have two equal pieces in the same size.
2. Lay the first piece down, good (right) side up, and the second piece down good (right) side down, so that both right sides are touching (facing in). Pin along 3 of the 4 edges. Sew along these 3 edges.
3. Turn the case right side out. Stuff case with fluffy filler stuff. I saved money here by using filler from old throw pillows I wasn't using anymore.
4. Pin open edge together and sew as close to edge as possible! VOILA!
