Today is the first day of October and its Fall - my favourite time of the year! Crispy leaves, fall mums, scarecrows and pumpkins fill the front steps of our neighbourhood. October also brings the excitement of HALLOWEEN, which now has a totally different and WAY more fun meaning to my family now that we have a little trick or treater.
Today we made this adorable treat platter to put our yummy Halloween candy on. I hope to do this every year, maybe a little different each time, and use them as decorations in our living room or use them as focal points on a dining room table setting.
Here is what you need:
- sharpie
- acrylic paint (orange, yellow and white)- these are $1 per bottle at Dollarama
- plate - you could do any dishware you choose. I got mine for $2 at Dollarama
- sponge brushes (1 per paint colour)
- a cute little foot (hehe)
- an oven
SIMPLE STEPS:
1. Take your sharpie and write your words. I freehanded mine but you could always use a stencil if you wanted.
2. Set out your paint and brushes. I made our foot print look like a candy corn, which is white, orange and yellow but since our plate was white (you can use any colour plate), I mixed white and yellow to make a soft yellow in place of the white section of the candy corn foot.
3. Get your model ready! HINT: this would be way easier if you had an extra set of hands available but I did my little guys while he was strapped into his high chair. Brush the paint on the bottom of his/her foot and press onto plate.
4. Write child's name and year in bottom of dish with sharpie.
5. Bake at 450 degrees for 30 mins. Turn off oven and let the plate cool in the oven.
6. Enjoy your cute project!
I cant guarantee the paint or writing will stay on for years, so I recommend only wiping clean with a cloth rather than scrubbing and putting in a dishwasher.
Try one and send me pictures of your finished project :) happy crafting!
