I can't believe it's already time for fall decorating. That also means my baby boy is turning 1 soon, and my maternity leave is coming to an end. But it also means fall mums are on sale so it was time to head to the local greenhouse to pick some up.
I wanted to do something a little different this year because I was getting a little bored of just sitting the mums in planters. I also thought it would be fun to get more in the fall/halloween theme now that we have a little one who will be trick or treating this year.
Here's what I got to spice up my fall decorations:
- mums (they are on for 3 9" plants for $15 at Bradford Greenhouses)
- burlap (was 50% off at Michaels, so I paid $4.99 for the roll)
- fall ribbon (also on sale for 40% off, I think I paid about $3.50)
- random sprigs of grasses and scarecrow from Dollarama
STEPS:
1. Place the mums in the planter.
2. Take the burlap and tuck the start of the roll into the edge of the planter. Pull approx. 8" out to form the "bubble" tuck in, approx. 5-8" from the starting point. Continue this around the perimeter of the planter.
3. Make a bow out of the ribbon and attach to the front of the planter.
I also took a trip to the dollar store and got some sprigs of grasses and a scarecrow to add some height to the planters. Now all we need are our pumpkins!
