Yes, you read that right! This post is about simple RAIN GUTTER Book Shelves. I owe all the credit on this project to my wonderful, patient husband who found the idea online. We knew right away it was the perfect addition to our son's playroom we've been working on.
Here is a list of the supplies you need, what it will cost (approx) and where you can get it:
- Rain Gutter - ours was 10 ft long, purchased at Lowes and cost about $7
- Rain Gutter End Caps - they come in pairs. You will need one pair per shelf that you want. We needed 3 pairs since we were cutting 3 shelves. We got these at Lowes and they were $8 per pair.
- Screws - we used 4 per shelf but this will depend on your shelf length.
You will also need a measuring tape, level, pencil, drill, and saw (or something you can cut through the rain gutter with).
STEPS:
1. Decide where your shelves are going and how long you want them to be. Cut the rain gutter accordingly. Snap on end caps.
2. Take a measuring tape and level to your wall to mark out where your shelves are going. It's way easier to do this with a helper!
3. Line up the shelves to your marks and drill the screws in.
4. Add books. VOILA!
This project took about 45 minutes and cost about $40 total. I highly recommend having an extra set of hands to help out to ensure the shelves are level and hold them while you drill!
